I just wanted to say how proud I am of San Diego Padre fans for not buying into the bullshit boycott of Petco Park. The boycott was headed by James "Assface" Hartline because the Padres had the audacity to allow a gay pride event on the same night as a children's floppy hat giveaway.
According to the Union Tribune article yesterday, the boycott "fizzled."When I read that I said "Fuck yeah" out loud.
Hartline, by the way, is that scumbag Christian activist who was once a person of gayness but has cured himself through the power of the lord. Now he spends his time protecting society from the evils of homosexuality.
Here is the notice posted on his website about the intended boycott:
"Critical Action Alert: A Dangerous Attempt by the San Diego Gay Pride Organization To Recruit Young Teenagers to Participate in the 2007 Pornographic San Diego Gay Pride Events Is Now Underway!"
As if that wasn't alarmist enough, he added, "San Diego Gay Pride's Reign Of Terror Against The Children Of San Diego Must Be Stopped!"
And then my favorite line of all in this kooky call for action: "It is time to tell San Diego Gay Pride: 'Drop The Candy and Back Away From the School Bus!'"
Incidentally, you may remember Assface when he made news for convincing San Diego Bishop Robert Brom to revoke the burial license of John McCusker (then owner of Club Montage and ReBar) because the clubs catered to the gay community. Here's the column I wrote about it circa March 2005.
