As a father of a young man who insists on spending 25K of his own and his parents money, I don't think that "American Marriage Sucks Crackhead Balls" is too strong a metaphor. Also consider the cost of interest on the borrowed money, plus loss of interest on money spent, plus cost of KY Jelly in order to lube yourself up for the ass-fucking you are about to receive from caterers, catering houses, clergy, band-members, et. al. It's great to see that someone besides myself has a balanced perspective on this question. Thank you for creating this island of clarity in the vast Ocean of Cultural Expectations.
